Frog contest

For question #1, I found that the tree frog comes from the Hylidae family and that "hyla" means woods or forests.

For #2, most tree frogs lay their eggs in or near water.

And for question #3, tree frogs can get up to 10 cm or more than 4 inches in size.

Who won?

Does anyone know where to find the list of winners for the Georgia O'Keefe contest? I have looked around and cannot seem to find anything.

Help please!?

Oh, and love, love, love the newest kit. My Grandmother-in-Law loves frogs and every gift she ever receives has a frog theme. Well, she will be getting a VERY nice pair of socks made in her favorite colors - thank you!

Contest # 2. The Tree Frog.

1.The name originates from the Greek word skinos, meaning quick or nimble. I also found,

HYLIDAE

Pseudacris is from the Greek pseudes, meaning a false or deceptive, and acris, from the Greek akris, meaning a locust. This name is presumably in reference to their voice. The species name cadaverina is from the Latin cadaver, meaning a corpse, and ina, a suffix denoting a likeness to. This name is in reference to their morbid sounding call. Some researchers place this species in the genus Hyla.

2. Tree frogs lay very few eggs. Some lay their their eggs in the water collected at the base of bromeliads found high up on the trees.

3. A medium to large brown tree frog range from 40-85 mm in length. A white tree frog can average 10 cm (4 inches) in length, this frog tends to look really fat and flabby. Females have been known to grow as long as 5 inches, snout to vent. The males normally grow to be about 4 inches long.

Sock Contest #2

I spent way to much time on this, and don't really feel like I found satisfactory answers. Allrighty, here goes: I was not sure if you wanted the actual nowadays Greek translation for tree frog, or if you wanted to know what the scientific name (usually in greek) means. I went with scientific, but wasn't sure which one, so here is what I did:
1. Order: Anura (meaning without tail), Family: Hylidae - (dae-new world, hyla-tree frog) Genus: Hyla - (Tree Frog)
2. One of the many ways: eggs are usually deposited on leaves above ponds, where mothers keep them wet by urinating on them. When they hatch, they fall into the water below.
3. Depending on the variety tree frog sizes range from 1/2 inch to 5 inches.

Knitting On the Beach

I kept meaning to post this! There was something pretty magical about knitting my Woolgirl socks on the beach in Jamaica! Young Jamaican waiters kept coming up to me and asking, "Whatcha makin' mon?" I tried to explain about cold winters, sock clubs and the joy of merino ... in the end, they just brought me another rum punch. Ahhhhh...
Finished them on the plane back home.
What does everyone think of the new colorway??? I love the way it looks, but can't imagine wearing it. I'm way too uptight! My 4 and 8 year old sons went wild and they can't wait for them to be made - I believe if I make them smaller, I should have enough to made 2 pair (fingering weight)!
Oh finally for the contest;

I believe Hyla means bark
In water, or just above
Up to 5 inches.
